In the village

Just arrived from Mina 1 Mai. I have been at the hospital. The head nurse was not there, having a day off. But I informed them about the team's arrival and schedule. Also told them that we need beds and mattresses for the school and kindergarten for accommodation in July.
Informed them about the work we plan to do.
Today in Mina
The electrical contractor did not started the work yet. It looks that they will start next week.
Talked to Garofita about the summer accommodation. We need permission from director of the school and from the director of the kindergarten as well.
I went to Vulcan, met the director of the school and I got the permission from the school. I tried at the kindergarten there as well but nobody was there. I asked Garofita to talk to the director of the kindergarten, but I will also try myself.
Checked the flat, everything was OK.

Car fixed

Today the car was in garage again. Yesterday wasn't fixed properly. It was too noisy. Now I took to the usual garage, where they give a better attention to it and now it seems that everything is OK.

Vanessa on ITV

I think she is getting famous. Today on ITV, Vanessa.

Car problems

Due to car problems I could not go today to Mina. I have postponed the visit to Friday. The car just would not start today, than pushed to a nearby garage, and the fault was... the cathaliser pipe, which after been replaced, now is running OK. But it took quite a while to find what the real problem is.
In the meantime Mr. Buhociu the electrical contractor was today in Mina, checked the fuse boxes again, and according to him in the next few days they will start fitting the new ones. Just hope they will not find any problems.

Elections...

15 June is also the date of second round of local elections. Vulcan's new mayor is now Mr. Gheorghe Calburean from the democratic liberal party (PD-L). In Bucharest the winner is Sorin Oprescu.

Farewell concert

Our musician pastor Jozsef Mike, said farewell during the Sunday evening church concert. He will actually stay one more month in Brasov but this was his last public appearance. Photos of the concert below.

Saturday, Dracula Express

Dracula Express tourist train between Brasov and Zarnesti, stopping at Cristian and Rasnov as well. Formerly a royal train from the beginning of the XX century, now fully refurbished provides a very pleasant and interesting trip. We have tried it today with our family. Not exactly environemental friendly, I would say.
And inside of the train...

Euro 2008

The deadly group, as the Romanian press described it. It is difficult, of course, we all know it. So far we have: Romania - France: 0-0 and Romania - Italy 1-1. Not bad at all! On June 17, will come next Romania vs. Netherlands.

Acccommodation

Today I booked the accommodation for the Mormon team. They will stay at Manitiu's pension in Vulcan. We have been there before and is nice. Prices are good and also is very close to Mina 1 Mai only about 6 miles further. Hope they will enjoy their staying...
Also booked for a nice meal for Sunday afternoon, July 20th.

Virgin media???? never heard of it!

Virgin media in it's site (www.virginmedia.com/sport) presented all the qualified teams who will play in Switzerland and Austria at Euro 2008. Nothing wrong so far. Except if you see the video of Romania, it's more like a joke, saying that Romania does not have much chance??? and at the end of the footage, when they present symbols of each country (like the Eiffel tour for France or, Coliseum for Italy...) for Romania is presented a group of fat gypsies all having thick golden necklaces... This would be the symbol for Romania???

At this moment all we can say the video footage was withdrawn from their site so is no longer available. Good!

Talking with deputy mayor Clinciu

Vulcan's deputy mayor Mr. Clinciu, who is still running for mayor, told me today that as far as they are concerned there is no problem that no additional sources of water were found, as the mayor office could not simply authorize any springs to be captured and added to the hospital, as they do not know the quality of them. From this point of view they would not recommend at all the capturing of any further springs.
The fact still remains that especially in July and August there is water shortage in the hospital. They are suggesting a new project for making a new underground water piping.

03 June 2008

Vulcan and Mina 1 Mai

A new welcoming sign as you enter into Brasov (in Romanian, German and Hungarian), erected by mayor ScripcaruThe mayor of Vulcan will be decided on 15 June, when people will vote again. So far we know that the existing mayor Mr. Druia Claudiu has lost the elections. The villagers will have to decide between Mr. Gheorghe Calburean and Mr. Ioan Clinciu (the existing vice mayor). It seems, so far Mr. Calburean has more chance...
I was today at the mayor's office met Mr. Clinciu, our friend. He said that next to the small river as we pass towards the village they have drilled and there is a very good water source. This should be connected with the village and the water problem would be sorted for good, including the hospital.
There is a major road work between Codlea and Vulcan, now they are laying the new tarmac layer. Soon it will be a good road.

Road works near to the junction
I paid the dentist today, met her Vulcan office.
In Mina 1 Mai, done the pressurisation for the dental compressor, according the Peter's advice.
Checked for the welding kit, I was told that is there is OK, and containers are not empty.
Also glad to tell that the new 3 phase sewing machine is connected and it works perfectly.
Also important to mention that the water capture project from the mountains is cancelled as there is no water there, is mainly a marsh land.
Briefly informed the head nurse about the summer teams.
They just got a new computer from the Brasov office with software too...

Scripcaru the new old mayor

George Scripcaru is the new mayor of Brasov. He was in the past 4 years and he will be for the next 4 too. This was predictable as he won 70% of the total votes. We were all voting for him, no secret. The next candidate managed to get just around 10% of the votes.
The president of the county council is the same too, Mr. Cancescu Aristotel. He was elected with 35% of the total votes, just 2% more than the next candidate Mr. Dumitru Puchianu.
Cancescu's victory is due to the new tarmac roads in the county, including the Mina 1 Mai road too, and also the restorations of many fortresses, museums around the county.
In other words all the new leaders are the same...
